Architecture is a second career for me. After spending sixteen years in Commercial Banking, I decided it was time for a change. I was living in Stamford, Connecticut at the time and I wasn’t sure what my next career would be until I spent a week with my good friend, Laura, in San Diego one brutally cold February. Laura and her husband had recently moved into an old beach house with a fabulous view in Point Loma and were about to start work with an Architect to build a new home on the lot. Laura and I spent a lot of time that week just wandering around Point Loma looking at homes in the neighborhood: old, new and remodels. That’s when it hit me that I would be an Architect. I am very analytical, creative, efficient, patient and practical. I like to solve problems, make things and challenge myself. And I’m good at it. As an Architect I apply these skills every day whether I am working on a small bathroom remodel or a new 5,000+ square foot home. The services you require from an Architect are much more than drawing pretty pictures. Building codes and building department requirements are complicated. What the building department needs on a set of plans isn’t always what the Contractor needs. Many finish details aren’t required by the building departments but are needed by the Contractor to provide you with an accurate bid. Good design is personal. One size never fits all. Each project is a team effort and a reflection of the Owner as well as the Architect. |
