BANKERS HILL KITCHEN

This is my kitchen. So you see, I’m not just the Architect, I’m also a client. My condo in Bankers Hill was built in 1959 and not much had been to it since then. I deemed the bathrooms livable but the kitchen had to go. It was dark, had vinyl flooring, two dead corners and cabinets that were falling apart.

I changed the floor plan layout from a “J” shape to a galley kitchen, moving the entrance to the kitchen from the living area to the unit entry. I left two openings into the living area to bring in light and open up the view from the prep and sink areas of the kitchen.

The new floor matches the entry, bath and circulation space porcelain tile. It is deep brown with a metallic glaze and hints of sea green. The cabinets are natural, vertical grain bamboo with the strips running horizontally, and granite slab countertops. The majority of the lower cabinets are drawers; my cats have a very difficult time opening drawers where cupboards typically pose no challenge whatsoever. This also allows me to easily see everything within.

The refrigerator and undercounter wine chiller are KitchenAid. The cooktop, oven, dishwasher and steam oven are Miele.
