9TH STREET RESIDENCE
This is a schematic sketch for a new single family dwelling on a small lot just a few blocks from the Pacific Ocean. The infill lot slopes gently up from the street for about 100’ then rises steeply to a small plateau at the rear of the lot. The nearby ocean can be seen from this plateau and a water view is also captured from the second story Master Bedroom and roof deck. This concept proposes using green materials and technologies combined with an Arts & Crafts aesthetic. The wave form of the curved roof evokes the tidal effects of the ocean just three blocks away. The plan provides for living areas on the first floor (living, dining, kitchen, study), Master Suite on the second floor and a full basement with additional bedrooms, media, laundry and utility spaces. A detached two car garage would be set into the steep slope at the rear with a green roof to expand yard area where an ocean view can be seen. Stairs and a catwalk would connect kitchen to garage to roof deck to plateau to make these areas easily accessible from each other. |
