OLIVENHAIN REMODEL

The Owners wanted to combine their existing main residence with an accessory building that contained a single car garage and guest quarters. They also wanted to enlarge their existing kitchen to include a large eat-in area and media room. They entertain frequently and also desired a larger living room and a dining room that could comfortably seat 12. And all these spaces needed to interconnect.

The final design extended the existing living room out an additional 10 feet. The new addition connects the two original structures and primarily contains the kitchen and media spaces. The new dining room occupies the area of the old kitchen and part of the new addition. And all areas easily connect without bleeding into each other. The anchor of it all is the island fireplace in the new addition.

This was a challenging project given the varying angles and roof pitches. Teamwork was essential between the Architect, Owner and Contractor. Construction was begun in June 2006 and although there were still some final finish items to complete, the family was able to enjoy and entertain during the December holidays.
